This week was all about apprenticeships and dual studies. Following a training session for external applicants on Monday morning, all our apprentices and dual students headed to the Blind Date event: a relaxed gathering at the barbecue hut in Hönningen where our new apprentices were warmly welcomed before their official start in September!
Apprentice Blind Date
Around 30 participants, including both current and incoming apprentices as well as trainers, took part. A creative icebreaker game using a ball of yarn helped the new apprentices learn more about their future colleagues. The day was rounded off with a joint barbecue and a fun game of ladder golf, fostering interaction and team spirit.
Outdoor Training
On Tuesday, the second-year apprentices continued with an outdoor training session. After a brief introduction, the apprentices tested their accuracy in archery, with Walter Hammermüller emerging as the top marksman, closely followed by Carsten Schneider and Jonas Jenniches. After a shared lunch, the highlight of the day awaited: a visit to the high ropes course, themed “Outside your comfort zone.” After a safety briefing, the apprentices faced their fears, pushed their limits, and strengthened their trust in each other during the “trust fall” exercise. The team’s goal of “conquering” the high ropes course and supporting each other throughout the day was successfully achieved.
This shared experience underscored the importance of coming together for our young talents. Such events are crucial for Schoeller, as they not only facilitate the integration of new apprentices but also break down departmental barriers. By fostering a strong sense of community, understanding, and teamwork, we lay the foundation for a motivated and collaborative work environment that hopefully inspires our apprentices and strengthens their long-term commitment.
